So lately #1 has been drawn to our iPad, primarily for the purposes of watching Dora. Dora. Dora. Dora. My husband and I are starting to memorize the episodes we have heard them so much. We originally bought and downloaded these episodes for the purposes of distraction/boredom on road trips and trips to the bay house (where there is no tv). But now, it’s all of the time. At dinner. Whenever we come home from having gone somewhere. Right before bed time. You’re probably wondering why I just don’t take it away. Well, I do. Then I have to deal with the screaming and the fits and the tantrums… and you know what? Sometimes I am just too tired to deal with them. But this morning really hit a nerve when I was loading up the car to leave the house, even started the engine, and she didn’t budge from the sofa. She even said bye to me, as if I was going to leave my 2 year old alone at home. I have never had a problem with kids watching TV, in moderation. I don’t mind her watching morning PBS cartoons after just waking up and while eating breakfast. But that’s about enough for me. If it wasn’t so dang hot in this town, we would be playing outside everyday. We would be at the zoo, or the park. But 100+ degree weather is miserable with a baby and a toddler, and it’s just not sane to be out there past 11:00am. I cannot wait for September and October. I say that with the assumption that those months will bring cooler weather. You know, like in the low 90′s, maybe even 80′s?
Today the girls and I headed to Hobby Lobby. I like Hobby Lobby. It’s near my house, it has everything, and Emma can run around without me worrying too much about what she may get into. I’m also looking for inspiration for crafting and I have been wanting to do the girls’ foot and hand prints, so I picked up some washable kid-friendly ink… while I was picking up the ink, Emma was busy reorganizing the ink pads. I am sure the employees just forgot to thank her…
I picked up a bag of colored stones for Emma and we ended up having a pretty good time with them. I sat with her while we counted them, sorted by color, and made different shapes out of lining them up. I really am surprised at how long they captured her attention.
After the stones, and doing our hand prints, she wanted to watch TV. I said if we read a book, she can watch TV. Well 1 book turned into 4 books (yay!) And then, yes… I let her watch some TV.
We went to the local public library last week where I picked up a bunch of children’s books for Emma and some DVD’s for me. Even though I have streaming movies on Netflix, as well as HBO, there was something very satisfying about checking out FREE DVD’s from the library. I ended up checking out Chocolat (love love love it, always have), Precious (excellent acting, unbelievable depressing), and My Fair Lady (didn’t have time to watch it but will check it out again)…
So I am about to sign up for boot camp classes, I saw a great daily coupon deal, and I cannot pass it up. But then I saw these…
Need I say more????
